TrueCursor is Mac assistive software. It is intended for people who can move a pointer toward a target, but lose accuracy to tremor or unintended clicks. It is not a medical device and does not treat an underlying condition.
Functional fit
Who is a reasonable candidate?
Consider TrueCursor when
- Approximate directed movement is available with a mouse, trackpad, or trackball.
- Overshoot, difficulty settling, repeat clicks, or click-slide disrupt tasks.
- Keeping the person’s familiar Mac and pointer method has value.
Consider another access method when
- Approximate pointer movement is not available.
- Stabilization increases fatigue or blocks intentional movement.
- Head tracking, eye tracking, switch control, Voice Control, or another device offers a better task fit.
Suggested evaluation
A short, repeatable task protocol
Document the usual setup. Note the Mac, macOS version, device, displays, pointer utilities, and one recurring task.
Measure a baseline. Record completion, time, missed targets, unintended clicks or drags, and effort from 1 to 7.
Complete setup. Practice Fn bypass, global pause, and the both-Shift emergency stop.
Repeat the same task. Change one setting at a time. Keep device, target size, and instructions constant.
Check protected actions. Test single-click, double-click, right-click, deliberate drag, and release.
Follow up after ordinary use. Recheck at seven days. One successful demonstration is not enough.

The replay harness checks tremor-band reduction while also testing deliberate travel, lag, and overshoot. These results guide software changes. They do not predict the benefit for a specific person.

How does TrueCursor fail open?
Hold Fn
Fn passes raw pointer movement through while held. It does not depend on target discovery.
Press Control–Option–S
The global shortcut pauses assistance. A menu-bar control is also available.
Hold both Shift keys
Holding both Shift keys for three seconds disables all TrueCursor event taps and restores raw input.
Errors return raw input
Timeout, callback overrun, queue pressure, or internal error switches processing to pass-through.
Security and data flow
What stays local, and what leaves the Mac?

Production release requires Developer ID signing, hardened runtime, and Apple notarization. The public download stays unavailable until release checks pass. The app contains no behavioral analytics service.
