Do you need a $220 box, or a $39 app?

The AMAneo USB adapter and TrueCursor solve the same problem two different ways: one in hardware, one in software. Both are legitimate. Here is an honest account of when each makes sense.

Where the AMAneo genuinely wins.

• Locked-down computers. A work machine or public terminal where you cannot install anything: the box filters before the computer ever sees the movement.
• Any operating system. The same box works on Windows, Linux, and older Macs that modern software no longer supports.
• No setup beyond plugging in. For someone who will never run an installer, hardware has a real simplicity.

Where software wins on a Mac.

• Price. $39 once against roughly $220, and only the software lets you try before paying anything.
• Trackpads and Bluetooth. The adapter takes USB mice only, wired or with a plug-in receiver; Bluetooth mice and trackpads are out. Software steadies whatever you already use, including a MacBook's trackpad.
• Different help around the click. The adapter offers a button delay, movement stop while clicking, and a dwell auto-click. Software adds the pieces a box cannot see on screen: buttons that light up and attract the pointer, accidental double-clicks ignored, steadier scrolling, and typing protection.
• It learns your hand. A hardware filter has a fixed character. TrueCursor tunes itself to your tremor automatically and keeps adjusting through the day.
• Updates. Software improves after you buy it. A box is what it is.
